JOHN M. BUSTAMANTE

In addition to John’s commercial litigation practice, John continues to work on litigation related to patent, trademark, trade secret, and copyright law. He also provides counsel in connection with identification and protection of intellectual property, as well as, strategic legal advice on other technology-related matters

Since 2003, John has worked at a number of law firms, from BigLaw to intellectual property boutiques, focusing on complex patent matters and representing numerous Fortune 100 companies. He has worked every aspect of complex patent litigation, from pre-suit investigation to appeal, including seven investigations before the United States International Trade Commission.

• In re Certain Audio Processing Hardware and Software and Products Containing the Same (ITC) – represented a hardware provider and a software provider as respondent and intervenor re patent infringement.

• Positive Technologies, Inc. v. Sony Electronics, Inc. et al. (N.D. Cal. 2011) - patent infringement action.

• In re Certain Liquid Crystal Display Modules (ITC) - represented large multi-national electronics manufacturer as complainant.

• In re Liquid Crystal Display Modules (ITC) - represented large multi-national electronics manufacturer as respondent.

• Sharp Corp. v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (E.D. Tex. 2007) - patent infringement action.

• Lucent Technologies v. Gateway, Inc. (S.D. Cal. 2007) - patent infringement action.

• Multimedia Patent Trust v. Microsoft Corp. (S.D. Cal. 2006) - patent infringement action.

• z4 Technologies, Inc. v. Microsoft Corp. (E.D. Tex. 2006) - patent infringement action.

• Softvault Corp. v. Microsoft Corp. (E.D. Tex. 2006) - patent infringement action.

• Polaroid Corp. v. Hewlett-Packard Co. (D. Del. 2006) - patent infringement action.

• MessageOne, Inc. v. FrontBridge Technologies (W.D. Tex. 2004) - misappropriation of trade secrets.

COMMUNITY & CIVIC ACTIVITIES

Chair for the Zoning Commission for the City of San Antonio, ex officio member of the Planning Commission for the City of San Antonio.

Previously served as Vice Chair of the Historic Design and Review Commission for the City of San Antonio.

Pro-bono representation of a neighborhood association and local church.

Represented children and parents in cases where the State of Texas is attempting to terminate parental rights due to abuse and neglect.

Treasurer of the Roosevelt Park Neighborhood Association.
